EPISODE #16 - MASTERS SAGA NOVELS/THE DEFINITIVE SUPERMAN 2/AMEBAN PART 2

UPDATE: Let me the first to eat some HUMBLE PIE and say that my Super Bowl prediction was WAYYYYYY OFFF! Congratulations to the New Orleans Saints!

Hi all!

Back with you this week for another show in the continuing journey of The Protoculture Times

Lots and lots to talk about!

THE SHOUTOUTS!

It's humbling knowing people in the US and abroad stop by to check you out! You have my gratitude, always!

Liz - Congratulations on the birth of your daughter Caroline! All the blessings in the world for you and your family!
Cheetosdust - I will touch on what you've talked about on the next Randomcast. Cheetos has insight on what could probably work for something new in Robotech!
Aubry - Dude, your stuff is AWESOMELY AWESOME! I'm looking forward to talking about it in the future!
JasonC - Thank you! and thanks to your wife Cheryl for checking out my Facebook page!
GPPR and Carla Fox Aguilar - In the Robotech franchise, the women are a force to be reckoned with no doubt about it!

And a special shout out to the Executive Producer of the show, Smokey the Little Guy, wasn't feeling all too well this morning, but he's up and about now...Who's my little guy???? (and don't eat your food so fast!0

A little treat. people seemed to really like the Random Thoughts "Lightning Edition" from my RandomCast with the "DINGS"...well thought I would try it here....Quick Random Thoughts....."Lightning Edition"

DING!.......IT'S ANNIVERSARY TIME BABY!

THE ROBOTECH FILES - It's time for the Masters Saga with Dana Sterling, The Robotech Masters and so on. We read excerpts and epigraphs from Southern Cross, Metal Fire and Final Nightmare.

Lots of epigraphs in these readings. Like I said in the last episode, I'm not going to go over the entire story. just picking and choosing excerpts. If you want an excerpt I haven't read let me know and I can do it on a future episode! For the entire story Check out the Original 85 on Youtube legally and FOR FREE!

OFF THE SCIFI SHELF! - I give a little review of Superman 2: The Richard Donner Cut. While the theatrical release of this movie is a good enough movie, The Richard Donner Cut stands out as the DEFINITIVE version and kudos to Warner Brothers for allowing this version to come out!

THE PROTOCULTURE TIMES POLL QUESTIONS - One more week to go so vote vote vote! We take a quick look at the questions that are up there. We'll go over the final results on our next episode!

ROBOTECH WEB GEMS - What one finds when you google the word "ROBOTECH". For fans of the Sentinels storyline (non Shadow Chronicles) what do you think would happen after the events of the final novel "End of the Circle". Well someone by the name of Jason Youngberg decided to dabble in it!

IN THE ROBOTECH SPOTLIGHT - Part 2 of the Spotlight on Robotech/Scifi artist Isabel aka Ameban. She was gracious enough to answer a few questions about Robotech and her drawing style!

Note: Para los audiovidentes de IberoAmerica, Isabel si contesto la preguntas en Español tambien, Si sigan el siguiente enlace, puedean leerlos!

There's going to be a schedule change after next week's episode. I will be moving to bi-weekly schedule as of Episode #18. I want to balance things outside of the podcast realm and I think this will work out perfectly. Everything stays the same with the show except that there will be a show every two weeks. This also will let post more on the blog as i do want to get back into just a general flow of writing and who's not to say that in between weeks I come out with a little RandomCast every now and then. The last few weeks with getting sick and just really falling behind on things I don't want to let you guys down when you have been so supportive of the show. When I canceled a couple of weeks ago, I'll be honest, I really took it hard because while Robotech is indeed a hobby and something I'm a fan of, I've set the expectation for myself to go out there with the show in a timely manner and it kinda got me down that I didn't deliver. I think with this change I can come out stronger! 2009 was a year of achievement for me and 2010 will be even better. Not just with The Protoculture Times, but with everything I do!

Thank you to everyone for their continued support!

REVIVE FOR 25!...IT'S ANNIVERSARY TIME BABY!

Sorry once again....

I'll have Episode 16 out on Sunday afternoon. I'm fine, just a little behind on things. recordings are taking a little bit longer than usual so instead of getting frustrated with it, I'll just take a step back and come out stronger tomorrow.

I do apologize once again. Many say, I don't have to do that, but you guys are so great to the show and that means a lot!

Thanks!

RANDOM THOUGHTS 02/04/10

Work was kinda sucky today so a few Random Thoughts is the usual cure for occupational blues....

I've seen a few comments from this past weekend's conevtion stop with Tommy Yune and Carl Macek...nothing new and almost the same slideshow Tomm'y used for past conventions...

I can't believe he still uses the "Prelude sells for almost $80 on Ebay" schtick!" (DOUBLE FACEPALM)

If you're a Facebook user, I put a real nice drawing made by Lynn Williams, author of Atlantech up on my page. Girl, you got some serious talent!

See Tommy what you can do when you really APPLY yourself!

I've been wondering and anybody that wants to chime in you are more than welcome to. You have the Shadow Chronicles, a Tommy Yune product. He retcons some of the canon to work it into the story. The Sentinels are pretty much discarded, very loose if any connections to the story that has been around for 20 years...

Could it be that Tommy really wants to disassociate the Original 85 from the franchise? I mean in the last few years, what has been the REAL focus in Robotech from Harmony Gold's standpoint?

Shadow Chronicles....

In this, the 25th anniversary of the Original 85...somewhat of a slap in the face to what started it all. Like an unwanted stepchild, Tommy orders it to its room so he can showcase his "baby".

Macross Rights?......Does it matter?...Apparently to Memo and Maverick....it's EVERYTHING! Try and contradict them on Robotech.com. Hee hee! (Warning: You WILL get banned)

And Maverick..I've concluded you are just a seriously disturbed individual...I'll be watching "World's Dumbest Criminals" now....

I wonder what a typical "day at the office" over at Harmony Gold is like....I'm open to theories.

I think the Fan works keep the spirit of Robotech alive...Tommy, you can learn so much from these people...maybe learn to put some heart and effort behind the "work" you do for the franchise..

The poll questions are shaping up pretty nicely...keep at it people and take advantage of the freedom to vote!

Rereading the Masters Saga novels is a treat. A lot of people put it down and that's the diversity of opinion for you. The novels really helped me see the story beyond the original animation. Expect a lot of epigraphs to be read this go around!

So many little Robotech websites out there that go unnoticed....The Protoculture Times will try its best to "notice".

I really enjoyed Random Thoughts Lightning Edition on the last RandomCast. The DING! really gave it something different.

I'm just a guy who was crazy enough to do a Robotech podcast, the jury is still out on my sanity!

A lot of fans are praying  for a Live Action Movie....I think Harmony Gold is doing the same.

What's more believable...Paramount Studios "quaking in their boots" on the chance that a Live Action Movie is made...or Harmony Gold "quaking in their boots" on the chance that a Live Action Movie doesn't get made?

Guys, I just don't think it will work....or happen! Ok...let me rephrase that....1 chance in 5.

Does anybody notice how when many people talk about The Shadow Chronicles, they don't attach the word Robotech to it. Hmmmm....the wonders of the human psyche!

A lot of passionate Robotech fans out there with so much knowledge....they should make a podcast!

One of my major hangups is second guessing myself....
What will all the criticism about Harmony Gold's inaction for the Robotech franchise result in?.......Absolutely nothing!...but fans have a right to criticize...there are some though who think you should bow your head and obey...LOL!

IT'S ANNIVERSARY TIME BABY! Harmony Gold is Harmony Gold. It's about Robotech! I celebrate it for the entertainment it's provided me for 25 years through the Original 85, the novels, the comics, the rpgs. And I know Carl Macek takes a beating from fans out there, but I will always be grateful to him and the entire crew back in the early 80s who got in the studio to bring Robotech to life.

See, you CAN criticize the Harmony Golds and Tommy Yunes of the world and still love that Macross, Masters and New Generation! LOL!

IT'S ANNIVERSARY TIME BABY!
To the domestic and international fandom....how about we get together and toast Robotech for 25 years? Email me to find out how!

Smokey the Little Guy says hello! (MEOW!)

Joke Time:

Little Johnny folded his hands and prayed to God, "Oh God, I have a really important question to ask you! "
The ground shook, the heavens parted and God himself appeared to Johnny and said; "What is thy question my son!"
Johnny said meekly "Will there ever be Robotech Live Action Movie?"
God looked at him thoughtfully and said "Not in your lifetime my son. You may ask another question."
Johnny then asked "Will Shadow Rising ever come out?"
God started to chuckle and said "Heh, not in MY lifetime!"

Sorry folks, I just had to......LMAO!

I don't know how much longer I can keep up with this...but I'll share that ONLY with you guys ;-)

The final episode of The Protoculture Times will be..........................................................................

Seeya in Episode 16!

EPISODE #15 - MACROSS NOVELS CONCLUSION & THE PROTCULTURE TIMES INTERVIEW W/LYNN WILLIAMS PLUS A NEW RANDOMCAST!

Why hello there!

It's really great to be back and we've got a TWO FOR ONE THIS WEEK!

First up is Episode 15 of The Protoculture Times!

Download this episode (right click and save)

We start off of course with THE SHOUTOUTS!

International Fans keep chiming in along with the Fans from the good ol' USA!

Un mensaje a mis audiovidentes de Latino America!

Mechanimorph, I'm honored that you listen to me while you are walking your dogs....whatever works! LOL!

Hola Jefferson y Jack Paredes!

If you are at this weekend's San Francisco convention with Tommy and Kevin for the Robotech panel, let us know what they had to say. Supposedly they were going to talk about Robotech's future,,,,,,hmmmmm.

INVIDNINJA92, we'll be talking soon! Great website by the way, I'll be mentioning it on a future show!

A LIVE SHOW update! I WANT to do it, now it's a question of HOW to do it!

THE ROBOTECH FILES - Based on the last episode, I'm not going to go over the entire Original 85 episodes again. I did that for 10 episodes and the last Robotech Files was just too long! Going forward, I'll read selected excerpts covering moments from the books, novel only passages and of course the epigraphs! We conclude on this episode the Macross Saga with novels #5 and #6, Force of Arms and Doomsday. Read to you by amateur "thespian" ....JT! ...= P

THE PROTOCULTURE TIMES INTERVIEW - It is my extreme pleasure to interview the author of the fan fiction work Atlantech, Lynn Williams! She is a dear friend and the person who first gave this show a speace on where to advertise! Now this interview is a bit different as we did it through email so I'll be reading both the questions and answers. (and NO WAY ON HELL DID I TRY TO IMITATE LYNN'S VOICE...I have a tough time already imitating my own!  LOL!) She talks about Atlantech, her approach to writing and drawing and definitley exercises her right to opinionate on the current state of the Robotech franchise!

Her email address: atlantech4000@yahoo.com

For a full transcript of the interview check it out at The Lost Universe of Robotech by clicking here!

We follow that with a short segment that I'm going to dub ROBOTECH WEB GEMS. I like to, in quieter moments, scour around the world wide web and just find random things connected to Robotech On this first installment I found a real sparkler...Did you know of the connection between Robotech and..........Nostradamus???

Check it out by clicking here! And thanks to Aubry Thonon for the great job on this and the Mckinney Purist FAQ for the novels!

And IN THE ROBOTECH SPOTLIGHT, a very special one as it's our first INTERNATIONAL spotlight we shine. A very talented artist hailing from Spain by the name of Isabel aka Ameban. Not only is her Robotech work awesome, her WHOLE gallery is amazing. This girl has a true gift and it is a privilege to profile her work. WOW!

Now this will be part one because Isabel was gracious enough to answer a few questions about her work and Robotech and we'll cover those on our next episode.

Un abrazo Isabel y avisa a todos los fans de Robotech en España que siempre son bienvenidos aqui!

It's great to be back everyone and remember....NEVER TAKE LIFE FOR GRANTED!
But wait........THERE'S MORE?????

You got it! As an extra added bonus I did another edition of the RandomCast!

Download this episode (right click and save)

And boy do I get random here, LOL! Apparently the doc says I keep things in too much (WTF??)...so I do kinda let loose here. There is some language but I keep it to a minimum, just letting you know though.

We've got the first Random Thoughts.....Lightning Edition.......DING!...(You'll get it when you hear it, hee hee!)

Some Random Thoughts on...

A "divorce" between Pizza the Hutt and Robotech?
Tommy Yune and....the Tonight Show?
Fan Projects and the parties that bash them...
The application process to join Robotech fandom (WTF??)

....and a few other things.

Oh and MAVERICK_LSC, you stalking little devil you, (LMAO!) I wouldn't listen to this Randomcast if I were you because once again you cause me to "lose it"....but NOT in anger...and this time I didn't do a retake because of the laughter. But seriously, I think you need to lay off the Harmony Gold Kool-Aid because it's killin' them brain cells of yours!

But hey, if you're a glutton for punishment, BE MY GUEST!

We also take a look at the results of the latest Protoculture Times Poll Questions and YES there are brand new ones on the right side of this page!

Thanks to everyone for ALL their support!

REVIVE FOR 25! AND IT'S ANNIVERSARY TIME BABY!

NEXT SHOW HAS A GREEN LIGHT!

Hi all!

First let me say, I'm feeling a lot better. Let's just say it was a wake up call and I need to take care of myself better. I LOVE doing the podcast, but my health and well being to be able to do it and the rest of things in life will always take precedence and now I know better. A few changes are needed but no way am I down for the count! I'm itchin' to get back!

Being that I am technically a week behind I got something special for this next go around...

We'll have our regular episode this weekend, which includes an exclusive interview with Lynn Williams, author and artist of ATLANTECH and as an extra added bonus another edition of the RandomcCast. There, we'll look at the the results of The Protoculture Times poll questions and we'll roll out some new ones.

The current ones are still up on the right side of the page. take advantage of your right as a Robotech fan and vote and if you have anything to add, protoculturetimes@gmail.com and let yourself be heard!

And as with every RandomCast, it's giving voice to my Random Thoughts about happenings in the Robotech world!

I'll have a Random Thoughts blog post later on this week, until then...

REVIVE FOR 25!...IT'S ANNIVERSARY TIME BABY!
