EPISODE #15 - MACROSS NOVELS CONCLUSION & THE PROTCULTURE TIMES INTERVIEW W/LYNN WILLIAMS PLUS A NEW RANDOMCAST!

Why hello there!

It's really great to be back and we've got a TWO FOR ONE THIS WEEK!

First up is Episode 15 of The Protoculture Times!

Download this episode (right click and save)

We start off of course with THE SHOUTOUTS!

International Fans keep chiming in along with the Fans from the good ol' USA!

Un mensaje a mis audiovidentes de Latino America!

Mechanimorph, I'm honored that you listen to me while you are walking your dogs....whatever works! LOL!

Hola Jefferson y Jack Paredes!

If you are at this weekend's San Francisco convention with Tommy and Kevin for the Robotech panel, let us know what they had to say. Supposedly they were going to talk about Robotech's future,,,,,,hmmmmm.

INVIDNINJA92, we'll be talking soon! Great website by the way, I'll be mentioning it on a future show!

A LIVE SHOW update! I WANT to do it, now it's a question of HOW to do it!

THE ROBOTECH FILES - Based on the last episode, I'm not going to go over the entire Original 85 episodes again. I did that for 10 episodes and the last Robotech Files was just too long! Going forward, I'll read selected excerpts covering moments from the books, novel only passages and of course the epigraphs! We conclude on this episode the Macross Saga with novels #5 and #6, Force of Arms and Doomsday. Read to you by amateur "thespian" ....JT! ...= P

THE PROTOCULTURE TIMES INTERVIEW - It is my extreme pleasure to interview the author of the fan fiction work Atlantech, Lynn Williams! She is a dear friend and the person who first gave this show a speace on where to advertise! Now this interview is a bit different as we did it through email so I'll be reading both the questions and answers. (and NO WAY ON HELL DID I TRY TO IMITATE LYNN'S VOICE...I have a tough time already imitating my own!  LOL!) She talks about Atlantech, her approach to writing and drawing and definitley exercises her right to opinionate on the current state of the Robotech franchise!

Her email address: atlantech4000@yahoo.com

For a full transcript of the interview check it out at The Lost Universe of Robotech by clicking here!

We follow that with a short segment that I'm going to dub ROBOTECH WEB GEMS. I like to, in quieter moments, scour around the world wide web and just find random things connected to Robotech On this first installment I found a real sparkler...Did you know of the connection between Robotech and..........Nostradamus???

Check it out by clicking here! And thanks to Aubry Thonon for the great job on this and the Mckinney Purist FAQ for the novels!

And IN THE ROBOTECH SPOTLIGHT, a very special one as it's our first INTERNATIONAL spotlight we shine. A very talented artist hailing from Spain by the name of Isabel aka Ameban. Not only is her Robotech work awesome, her WHOLE gallery is amazing. This girl has a true gift and it is a privilege to profile her work. WOW!

Now this will be part one because Isabel was gracious enough to answer a few questions about her work and Robotech and we'll cover those on our next episode.

Un abrazo Isabel y avisa a todos los fans de Robotech en España que siempre son bienvenidos aqui!

It's great to be back everyone and remember....NEVER TAKE LIFE FOR GRANTED!
But wait........THERE'S MORE?????

You got it! As an extra added bonus I did another edition of the RandomCast!

Download this episode (right click and save)

And boy do I get random here, LOL! Apparently the doc says I keep things in too much (WTF??)...so I do kinda let loose here. There is some language but I keep it to a minimum, just letting you know though.

We've got the first Random Thoughts.....Lightning Edition.......DING!...(You'll get it when you hear it, hee hee!)

Some Random Thoughts on...

A "divorce" between Pizza the Hutt and Robotech?
Tommy Yune and....the Tonight Show?
Fan Projects and the parties that bash them...
The application process to join Robotech fandom (WTF??)

....and a few other things.

Oh and MAVERICK_LSC, you stalking little devil you, (LMAO!) I wouldn't listen to this Randomcast if I were you because once again you cause me to "lose it"....but NOT in anger...and this time I didn't do a retake because of the laughter. But seriously, I think you need to lay off the Harmony Gold Kool-Aid because it's killin' them brain cells of yours!

But hey, if you're a glutton for punishment, BE MY GUEST!

We also take a look at the results of the latest Protoculture Times Poll Questions and YES there are brand new ones on the right side of this page!

Thanks to everyone for ALL their support!

REVIVE FOR 25! AND IT'S ANNIVERSARY TIME BABY!

NEXT SHOW HAS A GREEN LIGHT!

Hi all!

First let me say, I'm feeling a lot better. Let's just say it was a wake up call and I need to take care of myself better. I LOVE doing the podcast, but my health and well being to be able to do it and the rest of things in life will always take precedence and now I know better. A few changes are needed but no way am I down for the count! I'm itchin' to get back!

Being that I am technically a week behind I got something special for this next go around...

We'll have our regular episode this weekend, which includes an exclusive interview with Lynn Williams, author and artist of ATLANTECH and as an extra added bonus another edition of the RandomcCast. There, we'll look at the the results of The Protoculture Times poll questions and we'll roll out some new ones.

The current ones are still up on the right side of the page. take advantage of your right as a Robotech fan and vote and if you have anything to add, protoculturetimes@gmail.com and let yourself be heard!

And as with every RandomCast, it's giving voice to my Random Thoughts about happenings in the Robotech world!

I'll have a Random Thoughts blog post later on this week, until then...

REVIVE FOR 25!...IT'S ANNIVERSARY TIME BABY!

THIS WEEK'S SHOW IS POSTPONED.

Hi all!

I had a small health emergency that's kinda knocked me out from doing an episode. To anyone I've let down with this postponement, I'm sorry. The last thing I want to do is go out there half assed and not give it my absolute best.

Next week I hope to be back to 100% and do what I ABSOLUTELY LOVE, The Protoculture Times!

Don't forget about the poll questions...there's one more week to go on them! Till then.....IT"S ANNIVERSARY TIME BABY!

RANDOM THOUGHTS 01/18/10

Not too happy right now...maybe some Random Thoughts will change that.

I have to say that I really didn't like my last episode once I went back to it.The Robotech Files segment for the novels was way too long! I feel like I was going over the story again when we did that for weeks on past episodes. For episode 15, I'll try to keep it to just reading excerpts and reducing time...just kinda miffed at myself as I should've done better!

Pace yourself JT...the year has just started. And no worries, I'm still having fun!

Podcasting...serious business!

Watched the Golden Globes and saw Avatar win its awards. I haven't seen it yet. Just hasn't called my attention. If you have seen it, let me know what you thought of it!

And NO just because the movie has mecha, doesn't mean that OMG! the Robotech LAM is a "done deal" and is Oscar bound....the things some people can write or say....you'd think that we're on the 4th or 5th Robotech movie already!

As a character, Khyron has kinda grown on me...a lot of "what if" scenarios with him...maybe I'll think of a story some time.....

Facebook Mike, great talking to you last nite and THANK YOU for the kind gesture you did....that was unexpected and I'm honored for it!

IT'S ANNIVERSARY TIME BABY! (I love doing that on the show, LOL!)

I have seen some great Robotech fan art out there, I hope to profile it soon on the show...

My calling in Robotech is not about technical schematics...Frankly, I really don't care what the exact length of the SDF-1 is. For that it's a BIG DAMN SHIP is enough for me!

Keep votin' on those polls! (They're at the right side of the page, BTW)

LIVE SHOW UPDATE - Still exploring options....and a webcam.

Someday, I'm going to talk about......but for now it really doesn't interest me. (yeah...that was a clear tease, LOL!)

Let's check Robotech.com....hmmm....let me check my calendar...for a minute there I thought it was 2003 because the site looks like it did back then!

Whoever gets paid for "working" on that site, talk about EASY MONEY!

(Smells around)....Ahhh Maverick_LSC you were here YET AGAIN??? What are you, some sort of closet fan of the show?

MEMO1DOMINION thinks that Harmony Gold "makes" it's own anime...case in point Shadow Chronicles....actually Mems...since that originated from Robotech...which originated came from Macross, Southern Cross and Mospeada...Harmony Gold still hasn't "made" anything....

Robotech comes from 3 separate unrelated Japanese animated series...nothing wrong in admitting that...and I'm glad they were adapted into ROBOTECH, that simple, simple as that!

Tommy's short on coffee Mems, so hop to it!

By the way Tommy...have you ever seen Robotech?..It has 85 episodes....you know... we're celebrating its 25th anniversary....no?....nothing?....doesn't spark your memory?

Hmmm...guess you must be working on Shadow Rising, hee hee!

Seeya!

REVIVE FOR 25! (THAT ALWAYS MAKES ME FEEL BETTER!)

Now, YOU can be the star of the show! I have created a Skype voicemail box where you, the listener can leave messages for the show! Skype is a great way to communicate with fellow Robotech fans from all over the world. What's best, IT'S FREE  to call other Skype users and/or leave messages in this case since I set up the voicemail box.

You'll need to download the Skype interface and have a microphone/headset.

My contact name is protoculture_times

Hope to hear from you!

BIG show this week! What's in store?

THE SHOUTOUTS!

All that's left is Antarctica......WOOOHOOO! Thank you South Africa!
Hello to Kuwait!
Hola España!

Big greetings to:
Michigan
Staten Island New York
Indiana

Cheetosdust - The Australian Robotech fan contingent is alive and kicking. Spread the word mate!
Gracas Aiwa por la mencion en tu foros! SDFCREW website!
Facebook Mike - Let me know your thoughts on the Flower of Life and Protoculture!
Mage - Happy Birthday! No booze until next year!
Viv, JasonC, Brian3D, Incicivis, Happy, Viper - Thank you for reminding me the concept of "there's always the next episode" and not to sacrifice my health for trying to put out the show. You guys are the BEST!

Are you a Star Trek Fan? Check out the BEST Star Trek podcast out there TREKCAST. Click here!

David Ivy and Darren Benjamin, the hosts have such a rockin' time and were a big inspiration for me to get into the podcasting world! Keep it up guys because I'm a super fan of your show!

Spiderman 4 is no more......doesn't mean the Robotech LAM is a done deal though....

More on a possible LIVE show!

THE ROBOTECH FILES - First I will say that this was the cause of my frustration this week because I wanted to do the rest of the Macross Saga novels in this episode and that's where I pushed myself a little too much. We'll take a look at this week at novels #2 Battle Cry, #3 Homecoming and #4 BattleHymn on this file and we'll finish Macross off on our next episode. Note to self: - It's ok JT, you'll finish it in the next episode =-)

Lots of excerpt readings covering different moments in the story read by your resident amateur thespian(LOL!) , some exclusive to the novels. WARNING: Your reader sometimes really gets into some of the excerpts.....(sniff, sniff).

OFF THE SCIFI SHELF - On the subject of novels, one of my favorites of all time, Jules Verne's 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea.

Wikipedia Entry

THE PROTOCULTURE TIMES POLLS - We still have a couple of weeks for the questions and we'll review each one. Thanks to all who have voted and if you haven't....don't be shy! Nothing scientific here, just fans opinionating.

And by the way......here's the "official" Robotech 25th Anniversary logo from Harmony Gold.

I'm NOT putting here because I think it's insulting to the Franchise so click here.

ROBOTECH MEMORIES - A BRAND NEW segment and the primary reason I got the Skype voicemail. How did you get into Robotech? When did you first see it? Any special moments for you? Did you meet your future spouse because of it? (this has been confirmed to happen!) How did you react when you first saw The Shadow Chronicles? (was therapy involved afterwards??) I would love to hear from the fan's out there for their fondest and not so fondest experiences with this thing we call Robotech!

IN THE ROBOTECH SPOTLIGHT - That little hellraiser Khyron the Backstabber gets his moment in the sun!

Thanks to everyone for making the show what it is......A FUN TIME!

RANDOM THOUGHTS 01/11/10

Greetings to all from my office chair with another round of Random Thoughts!

It was great to get back behind the mic. It's such a RUSH when I hit that record button. The way things are going, I can tell you I'm not planning of "putting down" my mic any time soon! And besides, my mic is on a stand so it's always up LMAO!

Just read that Spiderman 4 has been shelved. Read about it by clicking here!

No doubt the rumors will start flying of "Oh now that Tobey is free, he can dedicate ALL his time to Robotech!" Tobey is but one person in this entire production. There is Warner Brothers who will ultimately decide on what direction to take all of this. The ball is in their corner if they want to move forward. I'm still standing by my thoughts on this....1 chance in 5.

It's that every time I think of what a Robotech Live Action Movie could be, for some reason, Dragonball Z: Evolution comes to mind and that ain't good!

I think I'll pass on the RLAM Kool-aid....

What is Robotech? It's..................gonna be different for everybody.....REALLY different for some.

Kevin McKeever........ahhh screw it I "CAN'T"  talk about it!

I'm really diggin' FACEBOOK! The FLAIR app so far is my favorite....all those Robotech buttons! Thanks to everyone who signed up to the show's profile!

With the "retirement" of The Robotech Word of the Show from the "main" show, I have effectively "banned" Memo and Mav....the irony! They are relegated to Random Thoughts and RandomCasts and no doubt they will continue to provide  us with the entertaining musing that they have become known for.

Robotech and the NOSTRADAMUS connection?....It's always been something that I was on my mind because of the year 1999 and one of his quatrains. I'll keep you posted on this one folks....

Revisiting the Jack Mckinney novels has been great. Honestly, I read them quite often. The way they tell the Robotech story has always been enjoyable for me. I go back and watch the Original 85 and am able to point out, "Oh here's where this or that happens in the novels." To me a great compliment to the base product and I'm going to have fun talking about them on the show. And remember, if you don't like them, you don't like them.....but I do.

Speaking of base product, Harmony Gold celebrates it all the time...too bad they consider The Shadow Chronicles the base product...[shakes head]

Still thinking about that Skype voicemail. It would be a great way for Robotech fans all around the globe can chime in! I like the idea but we'll see.....

ROBOTECH FANDOM IS WORLDWIDE, NO DOUBT ABOUT IT!

Don't forget the poll questions.....I'm really surprised the novels are doing so well. Exercise your right to vote as a Robotech fan!

A LIVE SHOW?...Well, I've been kind of thinking about it....if I do it, I'm all about preparation and I want it to come out in a structured way. Maybe a live video feed, though I'm one of those people that belong BEHIND the camera for obvious reasons....(Yes, I am kinda down on myself...at times). Defintely get YOU the listener involved in all of it.

Robotech Memories - It's a new segment I'm developing. Just something for everyone to share on how they got into Robotech, what they've liked and yes...what they haven't liked. I really want to make the listeners more a part of this as I consider all of you a big part of the success of The Protoculture Times. Stay tuned for it!

Hold on...lemme check for one of Maverick_LSC's love notes on the blog...GOOD! NONE!..... pretty creepy with him ....tells fellows fans that they have OCD...then says he does not take in the worst aspects of the fandom....has a "rooster fixation"......a  "regular guy" he calls himself.....ummmmm.......ok!

Oh I forgot....HI THERE MAV!

Gonna go add some more Facebook Flair.....talk to you all later!

EPISODE 12+1 - IT'S ANNIVERSARY TIME BABY! & ROBOTECH NOVELS: HATE TO LOVE THEM, LOVE TO HATE THEM!

Happy New year to one and all and thanks for stopping for the first episode of 2010, the year Robotech celebrates a quarter of a century!

Download this episode (right click and save)

Some changes for the new year;

The Protoculture Times is now on FACEBOOK! It's starting out simple as I'm new to it but thank you to everyone who has already signed up to the page! Click here to go there!

(You do have to be registered to Facebook to see everything of course!)

What we've got this go around....

THE SHOUTOUTS!

A call to all listeners domesetic and international, What's your Robotech Memories?

To the listeners outside the U.S. , What's the Robotech fandom like in your corner of the world?

Hello to Italia and India, thanks for stopping by!

North Carolina, Reno and Pittsburgh, thank you as well!

Khoroshen, good talking to you and may you come back home safe!
Iceblue1036, you and I needs to do an interview!
Cheetosdust - The flash of thunder from down under!

Looking into perhaps a Skype voicemail box, I'll keep you posted on what becomes of that....

A few words for Kevin Mckeever with his teaser statements and what he can and of course CAN'T talk about...

Harmony Gold's logo for Robotech's 25th Anniversary....SHADOW CHRONICLES LOVE FEST AND LAZY WITH NO HEART? (Check out Robotech.com to see it.) You be the judge. (plus it IS a poll question here!) Now I'm NOT a graphics desgner but I figured, hey let's see what I can do. Here's what I did and took me over 2 hours to complete!

Now I'm not a graphic designer and I know it looks cheesy, but I do acknowledge what got Harmony Gold to The Shadow Chronicles.....THE ORIGINAL 85! Why does HG seem to neglect that?

I'm just sayin!

THE ROBOTECH FILES - Now that we are done with the Original 85 episodes, we start a series of files for the next few episodes dedicated to probably one the more controversial aspects of the franchise. THE ROBOTECH NOVELS. People will love 'em or hate 'em but they are part of the franchise. We'll talk about some of the unique concepts that are the novels alone and we'll go do a brief synopsis of the very first novel, Genesis and amateur thespian "JT" will read some excerpts from this book! Now guys and girls, with the novels, you know I am a fan of them and I do NOT look to convert anyone to them. If you hate 'em, you hate 'em....

Wikipedia Robotech Novels!
Where you can still buy omnibus editions of the Original 85 Novels!

THE PROTOCULTURE TIMES POLL - We'll take a look at the results of the last poll (which should have been done on the last RandomCast). And now that we are in 2010 (IT'S ANNIVERSARY TIME BABY!) we're going blow the polls out of the water. We got 3 brand new poll questions on the right side of the page! Exercise your right to vote! And if you want to add more than just your vote, feel free to email, post on the blog or the Facebook page your thoughts on why you voted the way you did.

IN THE ROBOTECH SPOTLIGHT - We start off the new year with another example of the Robotech Spirit! BRIAN3D and his graphic renderings of various Masters Saga mecha!

Click here to see all of his creations. Just click on each forum authored by BRIAN3D!

And it has come time for The Protoculture Times to retire......THE ROBOTECH WORD OF THE SHOW. It's been fun...but to keep giving the Robotech.com mods in this the anniversary year of Robotech (IT'S ANNIVERSARY TIME BABY!  ) would be giving them too much credit. We end it with what can happen if you drink too much of the "kool-aid". LOL!

What's ahead for the show in the coming weeks, well we got comics, RPGS, merchandising, A SUPER SENTINELS SHOW and YES, I will touch on stuff like The (should've been kept) Untold Story and The Shadow Chronicles (that means I gotta watch them AGAIN!....ARRRGHHHH!!!!)

I am also studying the possibility of doing a LIVE show in the future. Something where we can get together and swap Robotech stories! I'll keep you all posted!

This I will promise, I will do my best to celebrate Robotech's 25th anniversary!

Thanks to everyone for supporting the show!

RANDOM THOUGHTS 01/05/10

Greetings to all in 2010!

First Random Thoughts post of the new year!

Working on Episode 12 + 1, (no, not going to use THAT evil number, LOL!) Now that I've concluded the Original 85 story, I can move on to what's been beyond that and there is quite a bit. We'll see what we start out with.

I feel a cold coming, hopefully it takes its time to kick in so I can get through the episode, so right now it's soup, vitamin C and cold medicine!

Hey Kevin Mckeever, why no "official" statements on the main Robotech.com page? Since you call yourself an "official" source and all your little teases about how nonbelievers to the Robotech way "will be sorry"...why not say it so that's the first thing visitors (and potential fans) can see it?...just sayin!

BTW Kevin, have you read the Terms of use for your website yet?

Well it's the 25th Anniversary year!...I AM EXCITED. Racking my head on how to celebrate....I've got a few ideas that I will let you know about shortly....

TO ALL INTERNATIONAL LISTENERS, LET ME KNOW WHAT YOUR FANDOM IS LIKE IN YOUR PART OF THE GLOBE! PROTOCULTURETIMES@GMAIL.COM

Am I seeing things?.....Robotech.com moderators "invading" other forums? Click here to check it out! Kudos to the comedian, you sure did your homework! LMAO!

Speaking of that website.....they were down for maintenance...had my fingers crossed for some change....but alas......

What part of Robotech's expanded universe do you love the most?....Or hate the most?...I've heard from both sides!

Be prepared for lots of polls....your opinions count!

What's your Robotech memory?......Mine?....Well one is that the Novels brought some peace to otherwise chaotic times for me. I invite you all to share yours!

And always, ALWAYS remember, the TRUE Robotech story is the one that's true for you. Don't let anyone else make that choice for you.....

Seeya for Episode 12+1!

Sunday, January 3, 2010

Real quick....

Seems like people are having things to say about the lack of heart or originality in Harmony Gold's 25th anniversary logo for Robotech. Thought I'd try my hand in it. I'm no designer so it looks cheesy but I sure remember what got HG to 25 years, the Original 85!

This is what I came up with, just playing around I'm not a professional and it took me more than 2 hours! LOL!;

Like I said, I KNOW it looks cheesy, but it just doesn't seem right that Harmony Gold forgets so callously the base for everything.

Seeya!
