Random Thoughts 09/27/09

Another round....

I'll never get tired of saying THANK YOU to all those who have listened to the show!

Got to talk to Mr. "Robotech Controversy" himself, Doug Bendo. It was a good, civil and engaging conversation. We have our own styles when it comes to how to approach Robotech in our podcasts, and we may not see eye to eye on certain topics, but that's the diversity of opinion for you...at the end of the day though,  we are Robotech fans...it was a great experience I feel for all parties...and we BOTH know that we will have our detractors...and that's just the way it is...how does that change things?...not a damn bit!...LOL!

I love SHOUT OUTS!....the more the merrier!

When it comes to opinions...yes JT is very opinionated about Robotech, but if I recall I go over and over again that it's just one fan's opinion and I invite all opinions on the show, even the ones that disagree with me...(I should remember, as I recorded the episode!) why would I say diversity of opinion so many times?...go back and listen to episode 1....

Me uniting the fans?.....LOL!....I unite with those who want to unite(even if our opinions differ)...and then we pass it along to others...chain reaction...

How come no news, preparation or ANYTHING on Robotech's 25th anniversary on Robotech.com!...

Council of Robotech Fans????.....What will be the first edict...kiss your copy of The Shadow Chronicles?....and YES I did buy it....how was I supposed to know?

Hello to the listeners from the Phillipines and from "down under" in Australia...welcome aboard and I look to hearing from you!

BREAKING NEWS: Pizza Hut is trying to get Robotech to take them back as a sponsor...disguised as Papa Johns....

MORE BREAKING NEWS: From RobotechX.com ...quote "Yes You can criticize HG on here without fear of being banned." unquote....THAT is refreshing!

If you were in a position to do so....what would you focus in the  Robotech franchise? There's a poll on the right, exercise your right to VOTE!

Anyone have any suggestions on how I approach the mecha in Robotech?..I'm not a techie....lol!

The Robotech Word of the Show....it will be a spot on EVERY episode of the Protoculture Times....and thanks to all for their "suggestions"...hee hee!

Workoing on Episode 3....and just having fun!

Emails or opinions of your own...hit me up!

REVIVE FOR 25!

  2. I think there must be a way to criticize Harmony Gold without hating on them, you know? I listened to a recent podcast of "Space Station Liberty" and was apalled at the disrespect shown Kevin McKeever! The man took the time to be interviewed on that podcast and, in my opinion, treated very poorly.

Yeah, I would love more Robotech product and story. But as fans, we must remember that we are not technically owed anything. In fact, we are fortunate that we get anything at all. Think about fans of other 1980's cartoon properties. They are lucky to get a dvd release and that is about it. Just my opinion.

Thanks for the show. I am really enjoying it. Keep up the good work.

  3. The purpose of being a fan is to sit back and wait for stuff to happen and have a good time. Thinking critically and making an effort to improve something which one has no authority to improve goes beyond fandom and into creative realms. Separating the two would allow people to at once enjoy their fandom more and put their energies to use somewhere that would have a positive effect. Trying to say that things operate in any other way would be foolish.

  4. Unfortunately, you're wrong, '85. You're so wrong, it defies modern technology to try and measure how wrong you are.

The purpose of being a fan is to express enjoyment of whatever it is you're a fan of,in this case it's Robotech.

Now, for a descent fan, intelligence is key. We're not talking about some blind, drooling-at-the-mouth Fanboy who walks around gibbering like an idiot. No, we're talking about someone who'd got a legitimate brain, and has issues with some of the things RT has been through.

It'd be the same if you were, say, a fan of Dodge musclecars. The classics had thier problems, and so do some of the new ones. If a person wasn't able to vent about their opinion of the new challenger, then they'd be considered something less than a true musclecar feind.

Legitimate dissent isn't some kind of plague. I happen to be a fan of Robotech, but I sure am not a fan of HG. 'Nuff said.

  5. Would you agree that Harmony Gold owes fans of Robotech nothing?

Think about it! They could have just left off with the original 85 and moved on to other properties. Let's face it, Robotech doesn't have the wide appeal of Transformers, G.I.JOe, or even bigger franchises like Star Wars. Robotech fandom is basically a cult following . . . big enough to be noticed by Harmony Gold, but not large enough to make further merchandising or animation a no-brainer.

JT has got a good thing going for him, you can't deny it. And while robotech may not be that popular, it does mean a lot to its fans, and that's all that matters.

And while HG may not "owe" fans anything, they could of at least given fans something good rather than something that completely made a mockery out of what we came to love. You can't take something and change it, then expect the fans to accept it, it just doesn't work like that.

But of course, this is coming from someone who gave up on the fandom a long time ago.

  7. I am interested to see what JT has to say about the Shadow Chronicles. While I wasn't totally blown away by the film, I don't feel the extreme dislike shared by many Robotech folks. I do see where it pretty much stepped all over the various Sentinel stories. It was almost like HG decided that too much time had passed to salvage the Sentinels and, instead, glossed over it. Maybe HG thougt fans could fill in the blanks with stories from the novels and the comics.
